The Beatles: 8 DAYS LOUISE A WEEK*

*Editor’s Note: A word of explanation. When this song first played on the radio–back in February of ’65–I really loved the tune–great guitar fade-in. I wanted to sing along. But what were the Lads from Liverpool singing? It never occurred to me that they could be singing eight days a week–a week has seven days–I was too young to understand that was the whole point of the song. And the Beatles often had songs with girl’s names in them. Sounded to me like John might be saying Louise in his Liverpuddlian accent and I decided that was it. And so I merrily sang . . . Eight Days Louise!
