Evidence of Viking Outpost Found in Canada

New archaeological finds suggest that Norse contacts with the indigenous peoples in North America was much more extensive and long lasting than previously believed–as supported by the finds of archaeologist Patricia Sutherland on Baffin Island.

Archaeologists dig in the Tanfield Valley.

The Mystery of the Misplaced Manuals!

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1 Corinthians 13:11

Well, when I grew up, it wasn’t so much that I put away childish things as they were put away for me–or rather thrown away. So Captain Action, G.I Joe, Hot Wheels–all these treasures and more–gone.

But in the intervening years–as with most Peter Pans–I’ve tried to get some of them back–usually only replica facsimiles of the genuine article. However, some months ago, I was surprised to find that I had somehow managed to hold onto my manuals for G.I. Joe and Hot Wheels–I found them in between the pages of the family BIBLE!

The G.I. Joe manual is missing its cover. This is what the cover should have looked like, with a few alterations–this is the facsimile cover for the ANNIVERSARY ADDITION (2003) from Hasbro:
gijoe.new
These are the pages from my original manual from 1964:
gijoe.old1
joe manual, inside pages
joe manual, more pages
joe manual, back pages

All of the pages for my Hot Wheels manual are intact, though the worse for wear. The back page Collector’s Log shows what I had in the way of cars (circa 1968). All the track, cars and such are now gone. Their memory haunts me still:
